Elphi is a smart plug that allows any iPhone user to control almost all of the electronics in their house that can be managed by a remote. All you have to do is plug it in and unleash your Wi-Fi at home and you’ll get to control everything, from your TV to your curling iron, with just a swipe on your iPhone. Sell your old iPhone and get a new one because the Elphi plug is compatible only with iPhones running iOS 5.1 (including iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S). So how exactly does this Elphi thing work?

First, you have to know that this device isn’t out on the market yet. As of press time, the makers of this accessory and app are still looking for funds to officially release the accessory into the market. They are on Kickstarter right now, looking for people who would pledge a dollar or two for their project to go all out. For 69 bucks, you can pledge to pre-order one Elphi plug and help fund the said project. The Elphi comes with an app that will help you monitor your electricity consumption, your plugged in devices and will also help you control anything electrical in your house that the Elphi can reach and control. It communicates via Wi-Fi and cloud computing and decreases your power usage by using pulse modulation to reduce the electrical device’s current.

Now if you’re an OC or a loving daughter to a 60-year-old mother, you’d love to sell your old iPhone for a new one so you can give it to mom to help her remember everything in the house that she should be doing. You can save her from her painful knees or back because it’ll help her turn the TV on or off from her iPhone. You can also set timers for her coffee machine or microwave so that it’ll automatically turn on or off in case she forgets about it. You’ll also be able to monitor her from afar by checking the patterns of her electric consumption using your iPhone!
